This isn't directly related to music, but George Carlin was such an important pop culture figure that his death is felt throughout all forms of entertainment. Aside from being one of the funniest persons who ever lived, Carlin (along with Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce) redefined the art of stand-up comedy by bucking popular conventions of what was considered 'acceptable' humor. On top of that he was a frequent critic of people and institutions of authority, especially organized religion, politicians and corporations. It's sad to see such an influential person pass, but at least his body of work will live on forever.
Read on after the jump to see some clips of Carlin's best stand-up routines.
