Remember how last year's most ubiquitous single was Peter Bjorn and John's "Young Folks"? There were so many cover versions and remixes of that song floating around that it had a lengthy shelf life in many people's iPods. This year, the same can be said about Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." An infectiously catchy dance song that has been many incarnations over the past year.
The latest remix to hit the streets (er, I mean blogs) is one of my favorites since it combines an iconic MC (Mos Def) with one of the hottest combos in Hip Hop (Spank Rock and producer Benny Blanco). The result is another head bobbing number that broadens the appeal of this song to a whole new audience. Much like Kanye West was able to package the brilliance of Daft Punk to the Hot 97 and BET crowd, Mos and Spank Rock are spreading the word of Justice to an audience that otherwise probably never would bother to listen to a duo of Parisian electronic DJ's. Similarly, I hope the contribution from Spank Rock and Benny Blanco cause more people to take a look at their ode to 2 Live Crew, "Bangers and Cash" (caution: video is NSFW).
